Enjoy a day trip from Cairo to Alexandria, where you can see Roman catacombs cut into the rock, the ruins of a Roman temple complex, and the Citadel of Qaitbay. You will witness the greatness of Egyptian history by watching these beautiful places in the city of Alexandria, the bride of the Mediterranean.
You will be picked up from your accommodation, either in Cairo or Giza, by your Egyptology guide in an air-conditioned vehicle and travel to Alexandria, the second largest city in Egypt, located 220 km from Cairo on the coast.
You will then visit the Kom el Shoqafa necropolis; it contains tombs on three levels and also includes a Tri-cilium where relatives used to sit on stone benches for ceremonies for the dead, as well as a center with carvings of bearded snakes. After that, you will visit Pompey’s Pillar.
Your next visit will be the most famous library of antiquity, the Library of Alexandria (this library was founded and maintained by a long series of Ptolemies in Egypt since the beginning of the third century BC).
Then move to Qaitbay Citadel, strategically located on a thin arm of land that extends to Alexandria port from the Corniche. It was built on this site to take advantage of the foundations remaining from the legendary Pharos Lighthouse.
After your tour, you will be returned to your accommodation in Cairo.
