The Pyramids, Saqqara, Memphis, and Dahshur On a fun-packed day tour to the Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara, Dahshur, and Memphis, you can step back in time. Learn all about ancient Egypt with the help of your expert guide. Ancient tombs can be seen in Saqqara, Memphis, and Dahshur, where there is a red-curved pyramid. Get a ride there and back, tickets for all the attractions, lunch, and a guide.
Your Egyptologist guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Cairo or Giza. You’ll start the day by visiting the Saqqara Necropolis, home to the world’s oldest central stone structure.
Your guide will introduce the history of the famous Step Pyramid built by the engineer Imhotep in the Third Dynasty (c. 2630 BC) for King Djoser. You will then proceed to the Saqqara necropolis, the mastabas of Ti and Emir Ptahhotep.
Your next stop is Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. In Memphis, you’ll see artifacts from many of Egypt’s great rulers, including the fallen statue of Ramesses II. You will also have the chance to visit a silk carpet weaving factory where you will get a demonstration of how famous carpets and works of art are made, and if you like, you can buy them.
Your last stop will be to see the Pyramids of Dahshur. Building these pyramids was a significant learning experience for the Egyptians (who moved from pyramids with stepped sides to pyramids with smooth sides).
Two of the pyramids of Dahshur, the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid, were constructed during the reign of Pharaoh Snefru (2613-2589 BC). The curved pyramid was the first attempt at a smooth pyramid, but it didn’t work. One design flaw was having a volatile base made of desert gravel and mud, which tended to sag when a large amount of weight was placed on top of it.
After your tour, you will be returned to your hotel or your accommodation.
