Visit the Citadel of Saladin, which was the center of Egypt for nearly 700 years, with its alabaster Muhammad Ali Mosque designed by Turkish architect Yusuf Bushnaq.
Then visit the site of the Hanging Church in Old Cairo, the Abu Serga Church, where Christ is said to have taken refuge, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue.
